Treating cancer pain with complementary medicine

In a recent clinical trial, the efficacy of music and back massage for pain & fatigue was explored among cancer patients.

Participants had acute leukemia and were receiving active treatment with chemotherapy.

During the trial, they received a brief light massage or music therapy three times a week for a total of four weeks or standard care (control group).

Results indicated that both treatments significantly decreased pain and fatigue intensity over time compared with the control group.

Additionally, light massage was more effective and lasted longer than music therapy for controlling leukemia-related pain and fatigue.
